My post-partum services are designed to help moms and their partners integrate the new baby into their
family as they gain confidence in their parenting skills. I am trained to assist with breastfeeding
establishment and troubleshooting, plus the basics of infant care such as diapering, soothing, and
bottle-feeding. Again, my main focus is to provide nurturing care for the mother, perhaps by caring for the
baby while mom showers, eats, rests, or takes a walk to rejuvenate herself. Or a mom could need validation
and encouragement as she sorts through her challenges and feelings regarding her new role. Doula care may
focus on an older child in the home, who may need some special attention during this time of adjustment. As a
post-partum doula I can also be an extra set of hands to get dinner started or fold the baby's laundry.

As a doula, my main responsibility is to care for your emotional needs with companionship, manage your physical
needs (from hunger to comfort measures if labor becomes painful), and attend to your informational needs
(explaining the course of your labor, medical interventions being offered, and your options to keep the labor
progressing), all with the idea of creating a loving and safe environment for you to give birth. Ideally, despite
what your body is experiencing, you should not be panicked or afraid. My goal is for you to be calm and present for
this amazing moment in your life. If you have a husband or partner at your birth, that person needs support, too,
so that he or she can provide the loving care you've built your relationship on. Typically, I meet with you twice
pre-natally so we can discuss your birth preferences and goals, join you in your labor and remain throughout the
birth, and then see you once again at home. My care focuses on your state of mind, regardless of how your birth
unfolds.
